100% cage-free, no exceptions
Cats are not built for cages. Confinement causes stress, stress causes illness, and a stressed cat in a kennel is not on vacation — they're just enduring. We don't use cages, ever, including for intake, isolation, or quiet time. If a cat needs space, we have private rooms. If a cat needs slow introductions, we do them gradually with full human supervision.
Cats only — no dogs, ever
We're a cats-only home. No dogs on premises, no visiting dogs, no "my dog is friendly with cats." Cats know when a dog has been somewhere even if it's not there now — the scent alone raises their cortisol. A genuinely cat-safe environment means dogs aren't part of the picture.
Hosts who are actually there
The reason cage-free works at bbcat is that we're physically home most of the day, every day — not popping in twice a day, not running a facility we leave at 6 PM. That presence is what makes the difference between "cage-free" as a marketing claim and cage-free as a real-world experience for your cat.
If we're going to be out for more than a couple of hours (groceries, errands, etc), that's a planned, supervised break in a closed area — not an empty house all day.
A small operation, on purpose
We host a handful of cats at a time — not dozens. This is intentional. It means every guest gets real, individual attention, we know who's eating well and who's hiding under the bed, and we never overbook. It also means we can be choosy about whether a cat is a good fit, and honest if they aren't.
What every guest needs

Up-to-date core vaccinations FVRCP (feline distemper, herpesvirus, calicivirus) and rabies. We'll ask for a copy of your cat's vaccination record at booking.

Spayed or neutered Required for any cat 6 months or older. This keeps tensions down in our shared cage-free space.

100% indoor-only cats We only accept cats who live entirely indoors. This keeps every guest in our home safe and means we don't need to worry about fleas, ticks, or outdoor parasites moving between cats.

Honest behaviour disclosure If your cat has bitten, scratched, or shown serious aggression, please tell us at booking. We can usually still host — we just need to plan for it.

About declawed cats We're happy to host declawed cats, and we'll take extra care since their balance and natural defences are different. We just ask that you tell us at booking so we can plan accordingly.
