Why We Started bbcat — Our Story
Share
Over the course of the last 18 years, we have been parents to multiple cats, and every vacation meant making hard choices.
Every time we had to travel, our options were:
- Leave our cat with a friend who didn’t really get cats
- Hire a cat sitter who dropped by once a day
- Or board them in a cage at a “pet hotel”
None of those ever felt right.
The problem with most cat boarding options
Traditional pet boarding facilities are built for dogs. Cats are an afterthought — stacked in cages, stressed by barking, and visited by staff only at feeding time. Cat sitters are a gentler option, but a single 30-minute drop-in leaves 23.5 hours of solitude for an animal that is far more social than most people realise.
We wanted something different. Something that treated cats the way we treated our own.
What we built instead
That’s why we created bbcat — a home-based, cage-free, cats-only boarding experience in Oakville where cats are treated like family.
Here, cats roam freely in cozy, human-sized rooms with natural light, cat trees, scratch posts, and toys. They’re fed on their regular schedule, with a little extra to ease the stress of being away from home. They get daily grooming, play, and genuine human attention — not a 10-minute check-in.
Abbie and Munib both work from home full-time, which means your cat is never left alone during the day. We take photos and videos every single day and share them with you, so you can travel knowing exactly what your cat is up to.
What we’ve built together
In the years since, we’ve hosted 400+ cats, earned a perfect 5-star rating on Rover, and now serve cat families across the Greater Toronto Area from our home in Oakville.
We believe that when cat parents travel, their cat deserves a vacation too. bbcat is our answer to that.
